About Us

Maskan – Organization for the Protection and Care of Women in Sudan

A feminist organization working to protect women and girls, promote their rights, and provide care and support to survivors of violence, displacement, poverty, and social fragility.

Maskan believes that protecting women is not merely an emergency response, but a fundamental right and an entry point for building safer, more just, and dignified communities. The organization therefore provides integrated protection services including psychosocial support, legal aid, case management, safe referral, community awareness, and protection-led economic empowerment.

Maskan focuses on the most vulnerable women and girls, including survivors of gender-based violence, displaced women, female breadwinners, widows, girls at risk of exploitation or early marriage, and families affected by crises. The organization also pays special attention to child protection within families and communities, recognizing that protecting women and enhancing their resilience directly impacts the safety and well-being of children.

The organization operates through a feminist, rights-based approach that considers gender, respects the privacy and dignity of survivors, and adheres to the principles of do no harm, confidentiality, safety, informed consent, non-discrimination, and the best interests of the child.

Through its programs in protection, legal aid, advocacy, and economic empowerment, Maskan strives to build a safer environment for women and girls in Sudan, enabling them to access justice, reclaim their rights, and actively participate in building communities capable of recovery and resilience.
